BAND Together: Our Why
For James Wilson, BAND Together isn’t just a creative team-building experience - it’s a deeply personal mission rooted in lived experience, loss, and a lifelong passion for safe, empowering environments.
James’s journey is shaped by a powerful combination of personal tragedy and professional purpose. Many years ago, he lost his 14-year-old cousin to suicide - an unbearably painful outcome of prolonged bullying in a school setting. Some years later, his father was killed in one of the most serious industrial accidents in Australian history. Two devastating losses, both pointing to a shared failure: environments where safety - emotional or physical - was missing.
These events became the catalyst for James’s commitment to creating spaces where people feel truly safe, valued, and connected.
With a background in sports science, James is a former champion athlete, an experienced high school teacher, and a seasoned educator and coach. His work has taken him from mainstream classrooms to juvenile detention centres, where he saw first-hand the impact that unsafe systems and broken trust can have on young lives. In every setting, his goal has been the same: to unlock potential, nurture confidence, and build trust.
Music has always been his constant—a tool for healing, connection, and creativity.
